Computers
behaving badly
Most
people know that many computer/software performance issues can
be solved by rebooting your computer. For Standard Conveyancer
these issues sometimes include startup and merging problems.
More and more, however, we're seeing situations where multiple
reboots are necessary to solve the problem.
This
phenomenon might be related to the computer not completely letting
go of behind-the-scene processes during the reboot. In such
a case, it often works better to fully shut down the
computer, wait 20 seconds, and then turn it back on.
Many
performance issues can be avoided by shutting off your computer
at night. This clears out problems that have developed during
the day and prevents processes from deteriorating during the
night. It also protects your hardware and software against power
fluctuations caused by electrical surges or brownouts, and it
saves electricity!
If
you need to leave your computer on during the night, the next
best thing is to restart it before you begin working. Also,
do not leave any software running during the night that is not
being used.

Overriding
Automatic Calculations
On
Standard's new HUD-1 screens, automatically calculated figures
show up in GREEN type. To
override a calculation, right-click the figure and click "Autocalc"
on the pop-up menu.
Pressing
ALT-A on your keyboard will show you a list of all the
automatic calculations in the program and allow you to turn them
on or off.
